See Video Of Woman’s Rescue After Tree Falls On Car During Storm
Extremely high winds and rain pelted the Northwest Louisiana/East Texas area Sunday afternoon leaving a path of destruction behind them.
Over 47,000 SWEPCO customers were reported to be without power immediately following the storm. At this writing that number has already been reduced to just under 24,000 and workers continue to work diligently to restore power to all those affected.
One of the people personally affected by the storm was a woman in the Longwood area who had to be rescued by Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputies, firefighters and volunteers after a large tree landed on her car trapping her inside the vehicle.
According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department, around 2:30 pm yesterday, the woman who was traveling in the 3500 block of Highway 169 near the Blanchard Furrh Road when the high winds caused the massive pine tree to fall on the woman's car, trapping her inside. The accident also shut down traffic on Highway 169 for more than two hours while rescue efforts were being conducted.
As the woman was being removed from the vehicle, deputies reported that she was conscious, alert, and in good spirits. However, she was transported to Ochsner LSU Health by Caddo Fire District 3 with serious injuries.
There is no update on the driver’s condition at this time.
