Beyond playing in trees as a kid or attempting to build a fort, I’ve never been much of a tree hugger. I appreciate what trees do for us and the shade they bring especially on a hot Texas summer day, but for the most part I drive past trees without paying too much attention to them, like most of us do. But I do appreciate history and tradition, so when I hear about the oldest tree in Texas being over 1,000 years old, I must admit that it is pretty cool.

If you’re not familiar with the “Big Tree” it’s located in Rockport, Texas. If you’re not sure exactly where that is, It's close to Corpus Christi, so about 6 hours and 20 minutes from Tyler, Texas. It’s quite the drive to see the oldest tree in Texas but if you’re ever in the area you might want to stop and check it out.
