LAKE CHARLE, LOUISIANA: Trick-or-treating was so different for me as a kid growing up in the 80s. When I got to a certain age my parents would just follow me down the street in the car as I went from house to house racking up on candy.  That doesn't happen much these days.

Kids these days find themselves in a whole new reality, where we've had to start having the majority of trick-or-treating at "safe places" like church trunk-or-treats.

It's a shame that it has come to that because the funniest part about trick-or-treating was not knowing what was behind the door you were knocking on.  Were they dressed up in a costume too, what kind of candy awaited you behind that door, were they going to try and scare you, and if you were able to charm them into an extra handful of candy?  It was a blast.

If you're planning on your family trick-or-treating the old fashion way in local neighborhoods this Halloween, make sure it's a neighborhood you're familiar with. If you want to venture out to other neighborhoods that you hear have the "good candy", then do some research first.
