Shreveport Police have arrested a man following a domestic violence investigation that revealed a pattern of prolonged physical abuse and threats involving a firearm.

Earlier this month, Detectives with the Shreveport Police Department's Domestic Violence Unit were called to investigate a domestic violence incident on Midway Avenue.

Detectives learned that 22 year-old Tyler McFann and the victim had been involved in a dating relationship. Evidence showed that over the course of several days, the victim was subjected to repeated acts of physical violence.

The victim reported being hit numerous times, kicked, dragged throughout the home, bitten, and assaulted with an object used as a weapon. It was also determined that McFann allegedly threatened the victim with a gun on several occasions, causing her to fear for her safety and preventing her from leaving the home.

The incident came to a head when the victim was able to escape the home and seek help. Witnesses saw the victim running from the home suffering from visible injuries and assisted her. Witnesses also reported seeing McFann run after the victim while armed with what appeared to be a handgun.

The victim ultimately found refuge at a nearby residence, where citizens intervened and prevented McFann from reaching her. During the confrontation, McFann allegedly threatened one of the individuals who was attempting to protect the victim. Those citizens remained with the victim until officers arrived on scene.

Responding officers took McFann into custody without incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where medical personnel documented injuries consistent with the allegations reported during the investigation.

McFann was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault Upon a Dating Partner, Battery of a Dating Partner with a Dangerous Weapon, and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.

From SPD:

"The Shreveport Police Department commends the quick actions and courage of the citizens who intervened to protect the victim and provide assistance until officers arrived.

Domestic violence remains a priority for the Shreveport Police Department. Anyone experiencing domestic abuse is encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately or seek assistance through local victim advocacy resources."
