Caddo School Superintendent: No Students or Teachers Friday
Last weekend's Winter Storm Fern has really thrown the Arklatex into a spin for the past week. Thousands in Shreveport Bossier lost power, heavy ice blanketed streets and roads, and businesses and agencies have been closed for several days.
With dangerous road conditions only recently improving, Caddo & Bossier Parish Schools have, understandably, been out all week. Caddo School Superintendent Keith Burton told KEEL News on Thursday, his biggest concern for Friday was "the amount of ice on campuses, especially in shaded walkways, and on top of canopies."

Will Caddo/Bossier Schools be Open Friday?
Burton said his initial plan is to "send Principals and all 12 month employees out to prepare for school on Monday, and leave teachers and students at home Friday."
The Caddo Parish School Board released the official statement on Thursday afternoon:
FRIDAY OPERATIONS UPDATE
After continued assessment of facilities and operations, students and teachers will not report to school on Friday.
Principals, assistant principals, instructional coordinators, and all 12-month district employees, including custodial and maintenance staff, will be on site to continue repairs, remove ice, and prepare campuses for reopening and for another round of frigid temperatures expected this weekend.
Across the district, teams are addressing heating issues at 8 schools, burst or leaking pipes at 12 schools, and ice on campuses parishwide. While progress has been made, safety remains our priority.
Additional updates will be shared as assessments continue. Thank you for your patience and partnership as we work to safely welcome students back.
Bossier Parish Released the Following Statement:
UPDATE: Thursday, January 29, 2026
Have cabin fever? So do we and we miss our kiddos!
While we had hoped to have better news, Bossier Schools will remain CLOSED for students and teachers Friday, January 30 out of an abundance of caution. Safety is our top priority and we cannot risk their return to school until the thick ice accumulation melts or can be removed from roofs, awnings, walkways, bus ramps and parking lots.
Tomorrow, our site-based leaders and 12-month employees will report for a work day to get our schools and centers ready for reopening Monday, February 2 and to de-ice and prepare for another round of frigid temperatures being forecast for the weekend. This is a work day at our schools and centers and they will not be open for normal operations.
We know this week has been one for the books, and Bossier Schools greatly appreciates you working with us to make the best of the situation. We look forward to welcoming back our students on Monday.
