Who Is Sponsoring This Camera Ban?

This measure is sponsored by State Senator Alan Seabaugh. It would also do away with the school zone cameras in Shreveport. Seabaugh believes these camera systems are unconstitutional because you don't get to confront your accuser.

Who Is Opposing This Camera Ban?

Caddo Commissioner Stormy Gage Watts is one community leader who does not support this bill. She says these cameras save the lives of children and she is urging everyone to contact the Governor and lawmakers to fight this measure.

The Caddo Parish Commission has already approved a plan to put in cameras to enforce speed laws, but that is now on hold while this bill to ban the cameras is being discussed in baton rouge.

Gage Watts says children's lives are at stake and we should not be banning the cameras in the school zones.

What Are Other Reasons for Pushing This Ban?

Seabaugh says some communities use these camera systems as a money grab and he thinks that's wrong. He also opposes the camera systems which are put in place by private companies. He says they take a cut of the revenue that should be going to our courts, public defenders and district attorney's offices. He says these systems actually take away money from programs in Louisiana that desperately need funding.
