For the last year, driving through Shreveport and Bossier City has been tough. Mainly due to the long-term construction on Interstate 20 through the two cities. The detour for that project has rerouted a lot of commercial traffic, especially semi-trucks, onto Interstate 220. That's caused issues there too.

But in a time before this heavy construction, the Shreveport area had a pretty nice commute time. In fact, it was the envy of the whole state.

What Is The Average Commute Time In Caddo Parish?

The most recent Census data that is available to create these type of reports comes from 2021, which is before the construction. When they look back on this information from 2024 and 2025, it will look much different. But the most up-to-date commute times for Caddo Parish shows an average commute of 20.5 to 21 minutes.

What Is The Average Commute Time In Bossier Parish?

From the same research, we can see what Bossier Parish looks like, and it's pretty close to the same as Caddo Parish. The data shows Bossier's average commute time is 23.1 minutes. That's slightly longer than Caddo Parish, and I think we can explain why...

This is totally anecdotal, because there's no available Census data with this exact information...but our educated guess is that there are more people who live in Bossier Parish and commute to Shreveport for work, than live in Caddo Parish and commute to Bossier for work.

That extra distance from Bossier into Caddo/Shreveport isn't reflected in the numbers going the other way, which would explain why the average for Bossier residents is a few minutes longer than the average for Caddo residents.
