The Cordish Companies have announced a groundbreaking ceremony for their $270+ million project on the site of the former Diamond Jacks casino and hotel in Bossier City. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 13th, 2023. Less than one year after another company initially purchased the property, before selling it to Cordish.

This new property, known as Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana will be the first land-based casino in the Shreveport-Bossier market.

According to a release from Cordish, this project is expected to create a long-lasting economic impact for the area. Their statement says:

"The project is projected to generate more than $35 million in gaming tax revenues for the City of Bossier and more than $168 million in gaming tax revenues for the State of Louisiana within the first five years of operation, create over 750 new construction jobs and over 750 new permanent jobs for local and regional residents, as well as contract opportunities for local, minority, women-owned, and veteran-owned businesses."

In December of 2022, Foundation Gaming of Mississippi agreed to purchase the abandoned Diamond Jacks casino and hotel in Bossier City. Just a few months later Foundation Gaming sold the property to Baltimore-based entertainment, gaming, and real estate developers, The Cordish Companies.

The former Diamond Jacks closed in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. Their owner at the time, Peninsula Pacific, attempted to move the license to St. Tammany Parish, but voters in that area rejected the bid through a vote. Foundation was then able to get approval to buy and reopen the casino, but now they will be set to sell it before they ever even attempted to reopen it.

Cordish is well known for operating gaming and entertainment ventures in Houston, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Philadelphia, among other major US markets. In many of their markets, they utilize their "LIVE!" brand.

The projected opening of the new Bossier City project is 2027.
