It's hard to imagine now, and even laughable to anyone under 35, but there was a time when the only football on TV was a select college game or two on Saturday, and maybe a couple of NFL games on Sunday. And who you got to see was based on where you lived. Then came Monday Night Football, and we thought we were in pigskin heaven.

But today.... well, now during football season, you can watch football almost everyday of the week.  But it's going to cost you. The days of seeing just your local or regional team play on Saturday or Sunday are long gone.

How Much it Would Cost to Watch Every Game

According to MarketWatch, it would cost you between $1700 to $2500 to watch every NFL game.  And depending on whether or not you have cable, you will need at least seven streaming services, and six username and password combinations.

With the proliferation of streaming services now, yes, there are more games available, but it's more difficult, and much more expensive to watch them. NFL Sunday Ticket will set you back about $479 for the season, (before any discounts). And if you want to add NFL Red Zone, that's an additional $10.99 per month.

If you want to watch Thursday night games, they are only shown on Amazon Prime.  That will cost $139 for an annual subscription.  So you can see, football, more specifically, the NFL is big business.

But if you are more of a casual fan, and don't want to shell out several thousand dollars a year just to catch a few games, you do have options to watch football for free.

How to Watch Football Games for Free

Most of us wouldn't even WANT to watch every single NFL or even college game.  Frankly, and I'm sorry Cleveland fans, but I have no interest in how the Browns are faring.  So if you just wanted to catch the occasional game, there are ways to watch them for free.

The first thing you'll need is a digital antenna. (OK, I guess it's not perfectly free if you don't already have one).  A quick search on Amazon gives you options as low as around $14.  With the digital antenna you can catch the games being broadcast on your local ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox affillitates.

Another option is the free TV streaming service Tubi.  If you're not familiar with Tubi, they stream movies, TV shows, and even live TV.  You won't be able to watch NFL games live, but if you don't mind 'catching the game' later, Tubi offers replays of games after they air.

Most of us don't need, or care to watch every NFL or college game, but in order to have options, you're going to have to shell out some cash.
