A Louisiana man has agreed to be physically castrated as part of a plea deal Livingston Parish. In addition to the procedure, 54-year-old Glenn Sullivan Sr or Springfield, Louisiana will face 50 years in prison.

This week, Judge William Dykes of the 21st Judicial District ordered the sentence when Sullivan agreed to the plea deal in a case where he was accused of raping and impregnating a teenage victim. District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux said the investigation into Sullivan began back in the summer of 2022.

According to Perrilloux, the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office began investigating Sullivan when the victim told detectives that the man had raped her repeatedly, starting when she was 14-year-old. The victim said as a result of the assault, the victim became pregnant. Authorities obtained a DNA test that proved Sullivan was the father of the victim's child.

Perrilloux also says that Sullivan had groomed the victim, and had threatened her with violence if she told anyone. Threatening both her, and her family.

Many states have chemical castration laws, where sex offenders are given drug treatments intended to lower their testosterone levels. While other states, like Louisiana, have physical castration options. A physical castration generally involves the physical removal of one or both testicles. It can also be required of female offenders, where one or both ovaries are physically removed.

Assistant District Attorney for Livingston Parish, Brad Cascio, told WBRZ-TV that he believes this is the first physical castration ordered in the state.
