There is a big date coming up that Louisiana SNAP users need to have marked on their calendars. With the number of households that rely on the program in Caddo and Bossier Parishes, local residents need to be aware.

Next month, on June 27, 2026, there will be big changes coming to SNAP. With hundreds of thousands of people in the state relying on this program to feed their households every single month, this could be an important change for Louisiana.

SNAP beneficiaries use these funds to purchase essential groceries across the state on a daily basis. This upcoming summer date will bring a major change to how those state-issued accounts are managed going forward.

Unused Account Funds Will Be Removed Soon

In June, some funds may disappear from SNAP accounts across Louisiana.

Based on information provided by the Louisiana Department of Health, unused SNAP benefits that have not been used for nine months after issuance will be removed from the beneficiary account. Those specific funds will not be replaced once they are taken back by the state agency.

Basically the state is saying "use it or lose it". If you have benefits on your EBT or SNAP card that have been sitting there for nine months without being touched, they will be recalled from the card on June 27th.

Parish Breakdown For Upcoming Benefit Changes

This policy update could impact a massive number of people across Louisiana...especially in areas with higher population density. Parishes like Orleans and East Baton Rouge have some of the highest numbers of benefit recipients in the entire state.

Looking locally at Northwest Louisiana, Caddo Parish has a significant number of households heavily relying on SNAP assistance. Bossier Parish also shows thousands of residents who need to closely monitor their accounts before the final deadline hits.

You have to make sure you are using all of the benefits that are allocated to your account before they disappear.
