Water woes in the Blanchard area. In fact, residents of Oil City have been without water for a few days. Some residents of Blanchard also don't have water.

Because of the water struggles, schools around Blanchard are closed again today.

Blanchard Elementary, Donnie Bickham Middle, Mooringsport Elementary, Herndon Magnet, and Northwood High School will remain closed on Tuesday.

Crews in Blanchard have been working around the clock to get full water service restored.

But water pressure at these schools is too low to open the schools.

District spokeswoman Mary Nash-Wood says students won't be on the campus but they will have learning opportunities available.

She says students in grades K–8 may continue using familiar instructional programs:

  • Zearn for math
  • Lexia for reading
Students can access these tools through ClassLink, using their regular login credentials.

High school students at Northwood are urged to log in to Canvas to review any announcements or guidance from their teachers.

If water service is not restored and school closures are required again on Wednesday, teachers will share learning activities through each school’s normal communication channels. Teachers will prepare lessons on Tuesday for possible release on Wednesday.

Once schools reopen, campuses will provide tutoring and or intervention opportunities to support students as needed.

Nash-Wood says "the district appreciates the continued patience and partnership of families and the community as these utility issues are resolved."

Blanchard officials say they have been working to repair at least 2 water main breaks that are impacting water service in the region.
