A routine extra-duty detail turned into a high-profile arrest when a sharp-eyed Shreveport Police Department detective recognized a wanted sex offender inside a local Walmart. 

Leonard Clark Jr., a registered sex offender with active outstanding warrants, was taken into custody following a brief struggle and foot chase.

Detective Spots Wanted Suspect Concealing Merchandise 

The arresting detective, who is regularly assigned to the Shreveport Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit, was working an extra-duty security detail at the retail store when they spotted Clark. According to police reports, Clark was actively attempting to conceal store merchandise when the detective identified him. 

When officers moved in to detain Clark, he resisted and fled on foot through the store. After a brief pursuit, the detective successfully overtook Clark and placed him under arrest.

Suspect Faces a Plethora of New Felony Charges 

Prior to the encounter, Clark was actively sought by authorities on outstanding warrants for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and Video Voyeurism. 

Following the retail incident and his attempt to escape, authorities filed a sweep of new charges against Clark, including: 

  • Battery of a Police Officer 
  • Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence 
  • Theft 
  • Criminal Damage to Property 

Shreveport Police commended the detective's vigilance, noting that their familiarity with local offenders directly led to removing a wanted individual from the community's streets.
