Celebrating 42 Years of Being on the Radio in Shreveport
I am beginning to realize it's pretty rare these days to be in a job for decades. But today (May 4) marks my 42nd anniversary in radio in Shreveport. I walked through the doors of what was called the Radio Ranch way back in 1984.
How the Journey Started
I was hired to be one of 4 members of the news team. Very few radio stations had news teams that big. It was very intimidating from the start, but I jumped right in and acted like I knew what I was doing. But believe me, I was learning on the job.
John Lee was the legend. He hired me to handle news for KWKH during the mid-day and cover stories happening in our community. I worked alongside Bess Maxwell and Darryl Johnson. That was quite a team. We were everywhere.
Moving from News to Entertainment
Things changed dramatically in 1995 when I teamed up with Robert J. Wright on "The Big Dog" morning show. That morphed from being the news person that popped in the room a few times a morning to the co-host of the show. Robert and I got along. I was a young mom and my boys were a regular part of the show. We had some fun times. We moved to KVKI and spent several years there. But in 2014, we accepted the challenge to move to KEEL and do a talk show. That was a major change for both of us. We would have to talk for 3 hours straight. No songs. We'd have to book guests and come up with topics.

Well, it worked. We knew the hot topics in Shreveport Bossier and we immersed ourselves into the community. People loved having some place where they could hear in-depth conversations about the big stories in the area. And they like the interviews we do.

Mike Martindale jumped in 4 years ago when Robert decided to retire and he's been a blessing. He'll be the first to tell you he's not Robert. But he brings so many things to the table that make the show so much fun to continue doing.
The team I work with in Shreveport is amazing. They are always willing to listen and help solve any little issue I have. And believe me, I have issues.
And I will keep doing it as long as I'm still having fun. I must admit getting up at 3:30 in the morning is a little rough, but I am so used to it now.
Thanks for listening all these years even if I do make you mad some days. I hope I have at least informed an entertained you just a bit.
