Shreveport Police Urge Residents to Report Squatting This Winter
The Shreveport Police Department is urging residents to report any suspected squatting activity.
Temperatures are dropping into the 30s with periods of rain, individuals may enter vacant homes and attempt to heat them using fire and other unsafe methods. This creates a serious risk for fires that could threaten homes near them, and could prove to be life-threatening to those who illegally entered the home.
If you see signs of squatters in an abandoned home or building, or notice improper burning within city limits, the Shreveport Police Department urges the public to contact them immediately.
SPD also encourages anyone without stable housing to utilize shelters and warming centers during this cold, wet weather.
From SPD:
"If you suspect squatting, call SPD at 318-673-7300. As temperatures drop into the 30s with periods of rain over the next several days, the Shreveport Police Department urges residents—especially those without stable housing—to seek safety at local shelters and warming centers."
