Shreveport’s winter report card is in for December 1, 2025 through January 31, 2026. It was a season of big warm-ups, sharp cold snaps, a dry December, then a soggy January, based on local climate data and the report card shared by The Weather Channel.

Shreveport Bossier Temperature grade: B-

Richard Lewelling told KEEL News on Monday that December ran warmer than usual. The month averaged 54.6°F, roughly 5 degrees above normal, and Shreveport hit 85°F on December 26.

January opened with a high of 83°F on January 6, then ended with an arctic punch. That late cold helped pull January’s average to 47.6°F, slightly below normal, and winter’s coldest reading so far was 17°F on January 27.

Warm stretches coax plants and pollen forward, then sudden freezes threaten pipes, pets, and anyone caught without a plan.

Shreveport Bossier Precipitation grade: B

December was dry: 1.21 inches of rain compared with a normal 4.94 inches.

January made up ground with 6.03 inches versus its normal 4.40 inches. The wettest day was January 9, when 1.90 inches fell.

Shreveport Bossier Snow and winter weather grade: A-

Snow is not a regular feature here, which is why this winter stands out. Shreveport has recorded 3.0 inches of snow so far, including a two-day burst on January 24 and 25 that dropped 2.0 inches and 1.0 inch. Measurable snow in the area typically happens only about once every other year.

Even a couple inches can cause outsized trouble in Northwest Louisiana. Bridges freeze first, back roads turn slick fast, and school and work plans can unravel in a hurry.

What Does This Mean for the Rest of Our Winter?

This season is a reminder to respect the speed of change. Keep a faucet cover handy, know where your shutoff valve is, and do not let a 70-degree afternoon convince you winter is over. Give yourself extra time on cold mornings and check forecasts before early commutes, especially after rain.
