Shreveport started the school zone speed camera program in September of 2022 under the Adrian Perkins administration. For a couple of years, it was a major headache for city council members and the mayor. Complaint calls and emails continued to flood in to local leaders.

But that has started to die off a bit. It seems more people have accepted the cameras in the school zones and are slowing down. But there were major hurdles during the early months. Blue Line Solutions, the private company hired to run the program was under fire for timing problems with some of the cameras. There was also concern about the appeal process and a lack of response. Blue Line set up an office locally to help handle these complaints. The city also set up a process for challenging the tickets.

KEEL News requested the data to see how many tickets have been issued since this program began. It does look like the number of tickets has taken a pretty steep drop since the program was implemented.

How Many School Zone Speeding Tickets Have Been Written?

Since the beginning of the program, more than 180,000 tickets have been written. The first 6 months was a busy time for this program. January of 2023 was the high mark for tickets with almost 15,000 school zone speeding tickets issued by Blue Line Solutions. That number has dipped to under 4,000 a month lately.

State lawmakers tried recently to ban the use of all speed zone cameras, but reached a compromise to allow the cameras to stay in school zones. But cameras in general parts of communities are not legal under the legislation recently passed in Baton Rouge. This means the plan to expand the program to 12 other locations in Shreveport has been scrapped.

Take a look at how many tickets have been issued in this program over the past 3 years.
