Remember When Texas Sent an Amber Alert About Chucky
The Texas Department of Public Safety once had to issue an apology over an Amber Alert that included the fictitious star of the Child's Play horror movie franchise.
The Amber Alert with "Chucky" went out through an email back in 2021. The alert not only included an image of the evil doll from the horror movies, but it also included age, height, weight, and eye color details. Including listing his race as "Other: Doll".
Though this would appear to be some malicious "hack" of the Texas Department of Public Safety Amber Alert system, but it actually was much less than that.
According to a response from Ruben Medina of DPS to KPRC-TV, it was in internal test that shouldn't have made its way out. Medina says in the response:
"Thank you for contacting us. This was actually a test we were running on a dev server and it accidentally went out. We appreciate you reaching out to us to verify this. We do apologize for this inconvenience (to) you."
But Chucky wasn't actually alone in the Amber Alert. Chucky's "child" from the horror movie series, Glen, was also included in the Amber Alert message:
With the full context of the alert included in the screenshot with both "dolls", we can see that Chucky was actually the "suspect" being accused of abducting Glen. Both characters had their full information filled out on the Amber Alert as well.
