CyPhaCon Brings Loki and Blade Runner Stars To Lake Charles
If you're a fan of comic con events, the last few years in Louisiana has been pretty good to you. Since the pandemic shutdowns, many of the state's comic con style events have returned better than ever. In north Louisiana, Geek'd Con returned in 2021, and has continued to grow. Fan Expo New Orleans debuted in 2022, and has been bringing major level shows to the state every year since.
But one of the best locally produced comic con events has been churning out great shows post-pandemic in Southeastern Louisiana too. The legendary CyPhaCon has put together great show after great show, and they're getting ready to do it again.
CyPhaCon is returning to the Lake Charles Civic Center April 5th - April 7th. It's a 3-day event, that is a combination of Anime, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and gaming. The event has been running since 2011, and in the past has featured celebrity guests like Julian Glover, Sonny Strait, Chuck Huber, Tony Amendola, Monica Rial, Robert Axelrod, and many more.
This year's CyPhaCon boasts one of their most complete lineups ever. Starting with Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Edward James Olmos.
He's best known for his roles in Miami Vice, Battlestar Galactica (2004), the FX series Mayans MC, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Simpson, Stand and Deliver, Blade Runner (1982) and its sequel Blade Runner 2049.
Also appearing at CyPhaCon 2024 will be Eugene Cordero!
Probably best recognized for his role as Casey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe project Loki, it might be Cordero's voice that many recognize.
Cordero has lent his voice to numerous animated projects over the last few years. Including a main role as Sam Rutherford in Star Trek Lower Decks. His voice can also be heard in Little Demon, Central Park, Bob's Burgers, and Loafy.
Comedy has been a big part of Cordero's career too. Appearing in over 35 episodes of the comedy series Tacoma FD and the skit show Key & Peele.
Joining Olmos and Cordero at CyPhaCon 2024 will be Mandalorian and Louisiana native, Barry Lowin.
Barry is best known as the body of Din Djarin in Star Wars' The Mandalorian. He has put on the Beskar in a dozen episodes of the show over two seasons. But Barry's Star Wars work doesn't end in The Mandalorian...he also appeared in The Book of Boba Fett as Garfalaquox.
The coolest thing for us, is that Barry is FROM LOUISIANA! He's from Lake Charles and is a graduate of LSU. While at LSU, Barry was a member of the Cheer team, and performed inside Tiger Stadium during football games.
After graduating LSU, he went on to travel the world with Cirque du Soleil, before heading to Los Angeles to break into the film industry. Which led to his role in The Mandalorian, and the Star Wars universe.
The amazing Mela Lee will also be appearing at CyPhaCon 2024...
Lee has worked on dozens of projects in her career. From film, to TV, and especially in video games. She may be best known as the voice of Jade in the Mortal Kombat series (starting with Mortal Kombat 11). She's also known for her work as Tiki in the Fire Emblem...which she was also able to voice in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
If you're a fan of Apex Legends, you know her as Lifeline. If you play Pokemon Masters, you'll recognize her as Karen.
You can also hear her as Rin Tosaka in Fate/stay night franchise, Yuki Cross in Vampire Knight, Shinku the fifth Rozen Maiden doll in Rozen Maiden, and Erica Karisawa in the Durarara!! series.
Many others will also be appearing at CyPhaCon 2024, anime voice actor Ricco Fajardo .
Fajardo is best known for his roles as Mirio Togata in My Hero Academia, Taiju Oki in Dr. Stone, Itona Horibe in Assassination Classroom, and Tor Kokonoe in Absolute Duo.
He has also worked in the video game world, in games like Smite, Paladins, and Trinity Trigger.
These stars are just scratching the surface of the stars you can meet at this year's CyPhaCon. See more of the lineup here.
Tickets for the show are available now, and you can get them right here.
