Oksana Serhiyivna Baiul-Farina is a Ukrainian retired competitive figure skater. Baiul is the 1993 world champion and the 1994 Olympic champion in ladies' singles. Why is Baiul so iconic? She made history for Ukraine. She was the first Olympic champion of independent Ukraine in any sport, can you say "girl power"?

After winning the gold medal in 1994, Baiul went pro. She ended up touring all over the United States and ended up moving to America. She was a part of a variety of TV appearances, and benefit skates. In 1997 she published two books, a memoir about her life and one on skating.

No one knew that Baiul was actually living in Shreveport until she took to her own public Facebook to confirm. It actually was a funny bat video.
