Louisiana Welcomes $4 Billion Ammonia Plant, Hundreds of Jobs
For a long time, it seemed like Louisiana was losing out on a lot of businesses and jobs to other states. A car manufacturing plant to Alabama, a mill to Texas, whatever the case may be. Lots of plants and facilities were closing without a lot coming in.
But, recently, Louisiana has made some pretty big announcements and that feeling of missing out on economic development is turning around quickly. Just last month, it was announced that Hyundai was planning to build a $5 billion steel mill in Louisiana that would bring in a lot of new jobs.
Now it seems that another major, multi-billion dollar project is headed to the Bayou State and bringing some high paying jobs with it.
$4 Billion Ammonia Facility Coming To Louisiana
It was just announced that CF Industries in partnership with JERA and Mitsui & Company were brining a state-of-the-art ammonia plant to Louisiana. The plant will cost approximately $4 Billion.
According to reports, the low-carbon ammonia facility will be the largest of it's kind in the world. The companies will be building this new mega plant at the RiverPlex MegaPark in Ascension Parish.
CF Industries says that the facility will "export approximately 1.4 million metric tons of low-carbon ammonia annually to internation markets".
How Many Jobs Will the Ammonia Facility Bring to Louisiana?
Every time I see an announcement like this, my first thought always is "How many jobs will this bring and how much are they paying?".
From the sounds of it, this facility will bring in some direct, high paying jobs and hundreds of indirect jobs. Several reports say "the companies expect the project to create 103 direct new permanent jobs with an average salary of $110,000. Louisiana Economic Development (LED) estimates the project will result in 311 indirect new jobs."
100 jobs at an average of $110,000 seems pretty good. Plus, the indirect workers are going to be employed for a while. Businesswire says that the project will start in 2026 and won't be completed and ready for production until at least 2029.
