LSU Baseball has been dominant in recent years. They won a National Championship in 2023. They've made the NCAA Tournament every year since 2012 (not including the COVID year). They've been regional champs 3 years in a row (not counting the COVID). In 2023, Paul Skenes & Dylan Crews became the only pair of teammates to be drafted with the first two overall picks. In short - they've been one of the best programs in the US.

So, the big question now is can they keep this dominance up? Currently, they're #3 in the country and have only lost 1 game. And, they're loaded with players who could potentially have a big impact in the Majors.

When it comes to the MLB, LSU produces players. In their history, LSU has had 83 players reach the Major Leagues - 23 of which were drafted in the first round. As mentioned above, the made MLB history with the first pair of teammates being drafted #1 & #2. You can see the full, impressive list here.

Are we going to see the same amount of top prospects get drafted that we did in 2023? Absolutely not. In 2024, 9 players got drafted but none in the first round. This year, I think there's a STRONG possibility that LSU has at least 1 First Rounder.

Depending on which list you look at, LSU has at least 5 of the Top 50 & 9 in the top 150 pro prospects in College Baseball. In short - LSU has lots of talent and I think they'll be sending several guys to the next level when all is said and done.

Will LSU Have Any 1st Round Picks in 2025?

The 2025 MLB Draft will be talking place July 13-15 in Atlanta, Georgia. And it being held in SEC country is perfect for this year, because I think we're going to see a lot of SEC talent go in the first round.

Jace LaViolette from Texas A&M is projected to be the #2 overall pick. Cam Cannarella from Clemson, Ethan Petry from South Carolina and Max Bleyeu from Texas are all projected to go in the first 20 picks.

So, where does LSU fit into all this? Well, according to all the early Mock Drafts, Chase Shores WILL be drafted in the first round. The biggest question is where. Some Mock Drafts have him going in the late 20s, some have him in the "Compensation/Competitive Balance" pick section of the first round. Regardless, barring an injury or a complete statistical collapse, the flame throwing righty is destined to be a 1st round pick for someone.

Other Potential MLB Draft Picks from LSU

Chase Shores is destined to be a 1st round draft pick. However, depending on their season, several other Tigers could go late in the 1st round or early in the second round.

Kade Anderson, Danny Dickinson, and Jared Jones are all listed in the Top 40 college prospects not too far behind Shores. If one of those guys get hot, they could easily work their way into the 1st round. And, if not, they easily should be 2nd or 3rd rounders.

In 2024, the Tigers had 9 players get drafted. I could see the 2025 Tigers putting that many players into the next level as well.
