These 21 East Texas Businesses Permanently Closed In 2024

Take a drive along Fourth St. in Longview, Texas, a trip down Jackson St. in Jacksonville, or along S. Broadway Ave. in Tyler, and you'll notice that some of the stores and restaurants you used to shop at and grab a bite to eat or a drink at are now out of business.

Not only are some of the big-name retailers that we've known for quite some time no longer in business, but some of our favorite local spots are no longer doing business either. These are places that we grew up with and that we're going to miss.

They have locked their front door for the last time for various reasons including the changing of customer habits and inflation. Inflation doesn't affect just consumers, businesses feel the pressure of higher merchandise and food costs as well.

Once closed, cities, counties, and the state will lose out on tax revenues and that loss will affect our local and state economies. Not to mention how it affects our friends and neighbors after the loss of their jobs.

While there are countless number of reasons why these businesses closed in East Texas in 2024, some of the factors could be:

• rising cost of food
• rising cost of labor
• bankruptcy
• retirement
• personal reasons

Whatever the case may be, there will be East Texans who will miss shopping and dining at these locations that they once called their favorite. In time though, those customers will find a new place to call their favorite because change is the only constant, and new shopping opportunities and dining opportunities are opening up quite often throughout East Texas.
