Hilarious Video Shows Car in Lafayette Without Door and Bicycle Sized Mirror
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - You truly never know what you're going to see when driving through Lafayette, and the latest surprise came when someone noticed a car on the road without a driver's-side door.
If you have traveled through Lafayette, you have probably seen some rather bizarre things on or alongside the road.
Just a few days ago on Ambassador Caffery, I saw a man in a swimsuit covered in soap, and while that was shocking, it may not have been as entertaining as the car that Brittany Taylor saw recently.
As she stopped to exit a parking lot, a small black vehicle caught her eye for obvious reasons. Not only did the small car appear to have oversized tires, but it was also missing a front door.
The driver's-side front door was no longer attached, and the man driving didn't seem to care that it was gone. In fact, as you'll see in the video below, the car seemed to have some sort of barrier instead of a door.
Now, in all fairness, the driver did appear to have his seatbelt on, so that's a plus. In addition to missing a door, the car spotted on the road in Lafayette seemed to have a very small mirror mounted on it, given that it had no door.
The mirror on this car resembles the kind you'd have on a bike so you can see oncoming traffic. I don't know if this size mirror meets state requirements or regulations, but at least a mirror is "mounted" on the vehicle.
Before we look at this car, which appears pieced together, I looked up whether all vehicles in Louisiana must have doors attached.

Louisiana Law on Doors on Vehicles
Louisiana's traffic code (Title 32) does not explicitly require motor vehicles to have doors while operating on public highways... That's why you sometimes see people with jeeps without doors.
However, state law says that any vehicle manufactured after 1972 must have a mounted driver-side mirror. Because stock side mirrors are usually attached directly to the doors you just removed, you cannot simply take the doors off and drive. You must purchase aftermarket "doorless" mirrors that mount directly into the empty door hinges or onto the body frame before hitting the road.
So, is this car street-legal? I may play Facebook attorney at times, and by the wording above, it may very well be.
Here's the car that has caught the eyes of many on social media, and now everywhere I go in Lafayette, I'll be looking for it too.
