Student Shot at Louisiana High School, Campus on Lockdown
A student was shot at West Jefferson High School around noon on Thursday, May 23.
As the school year comes to an end, FOX 8 reports that an 18-year-old student was shot on campus in Harvey, Louisiana.
The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time, but the campus was put on lockdown while police investigated the matter.
The news station says that they were told by a parent that the shooting happened while students were boarding buses following an early dismissal.
FOX 8 reports that the shooting may have been a result of a fight that broke out on the campus of the high school. The school district released the following statement:
"We are aware of a shooting earlier today outside of West Jefferson High School. While an active investigation is ongoing, we are working on site and cooperating fully with the Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s Office. During the time of the shooting, the school was placed on lockdown immediately and following all district safety protocols. After the school received clearance to start dismissal, students were released for dismissal. We urge anyone with information related to this incident to contact JPSO. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and JP Schools will continue to cooperate with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation of this matter."
