They know the feeling in Lafayette. We are pretty sure the folks in New Orleans know what it's all about too. Your best buds in Baton Rouge might have felt it, and every now and again someone from Shreveport, Monroe, or Ruston will find themselves experiencing it as well. What's the feeling we're talking about? The feeling you get when your Louisiana Lottery-sold Powerball ticket comes back as a big winner.

When it comes to major money in big wins for the Louisiana Lottery the game most of us point to is Powerball. In just 29 short years Powerball has become a driving force in creating big wins over the Cajun prairie, the piney woods, and the swamps and marshes of Louisiana.  Last night the Powerball game produced a jackpot winner.

At the time of the drawing, the estimated amount was noted to be $256 million. Here is how that drawing played out in the Powerball game on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Little did host Laura Johnson know that as those balls were rolling out of the hopper last night at the Florida Lottery offices in Tallahassee, someone somewhere was about to have their life and perhaps the path of future generations changed in a matter of moments.

Single Ticket Wins Powerball Jackpot of $256 Million

Our sources at Powerball confirmed that one ticket sold across the game's 45 state and multiple territories footprint did match all the numbers needed to win the game's top prize. That big-money winner was sold in New York.

Louisiana's lottery luck, at least where Powerball is concerned was abysmal. The largest prize a Louisiana-sold ticket earned was only $200. And, only nine tickets earned a $200 prize.  So if you didn't win, don't feel bad, you were not alone.

What Were The Powerball Numbers on Saturday, December 7, 2024?

Here is what we saw roll out of the hopper in Saturday's draw.

01   31   43   55   57  Powerball 22  Power Play x2

We mentioned there weren't a lot of big-money winners in Louisiana created by Saturday's Powerball drawing but some folks did get lucky. There were approximately 5,000 tickets purchased in Louisiana that either returned a player's investment or gave that player a profit of at least $2 bucks. So, Lady Luck wasn't invisible, she just wasn't bombastic in her charms, if you know what I mean.

Luck has everything to do with winning lottery games. If you weren't aware, the odds of you winning are stacked against you in a big way, but these games are still fun to play and I do enjoy giving scratch-off tickets as stocking stuffers. And I have made more than a few family members feel quite lucky on Christmas morning. Just remember to have some coins handy for scratching.

We say that to say this. If you play, play for fun, not for profit.  A gambling addiction will ruin more than just your life. If you have a problem please call 1-877-770-STOP (7867). The hotline is free to call and you won't be charged for your referrals to counseling. These games are more fun when we all play within our means. Good Luck.
