LOUISIANA - New research ranks the top states for hospital care, and Louisiana hospitals are among the best.
About the Study: CMS Data and What the Ratings Measure
Online fax service iFax put together the study, and they analyzed the latest data available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which provided Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey summary star ratings for 3,165 hospitals across America. The study used data collected between July 2024 and June 2025.

Hospital locations were identified with hospital reviews in every state aggregated to determine an average patient review rating per state. The top state is Wisconsin with a 4.06 out of 5 average review rating.

But good for us in Louisiana is that our state came in at #8 on the list with a 3.76 out of 5 average review rating.
Six Louisiana Hospitals That Earned a Perfect 5-Star Patient Rating
59 hospitals in Louisiana were measured, which is the largest number among the top 10 states. As a matter of fact, six hospitals in Louisiana got a perfect 5 out of 5 rating, which include the following:
- Abbeville General Hospital
- Our Lady of Angels Hospital in Bogalusa
- Ochsner St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge
- Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital
- Cypress Pointe Surgical Hospital in Hammond
- AVALA in Covington
The Worst States for Hospital Care: Florida, New Jersey, and New York
In case you were wondering, at the bottom of the list were Florida, New Jersey, and New York.
