Hurricane Helene made landfall along the Big Bend region of Florida with sustained winds clocking in at up to 140mph, causing widespread damage in areas like Taylor County, Florida.
The storm surge, particularly around Apalachee Bay, reached heights of up to 20 feet, creating catastrophic flooding conditions.
Tragically, The Weather Channel is reporting that of now (9/27/24) there are at least 22 deaths caused by Hurricane Helene and roughly 4 million people without power.

"At least 20 people are dead after Hurricane Helene made landfall and moved inland with high winds and heavy rainfall.
The deaths include 11 in Georgia, seven in Florida and two in North Carolina. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp confirmed the 11 deaths in his state. Kemp said one was a first responder.
All three states are under a state of emergency."
Hurricanes are obviously dangerous because the wind and rain, but for those who live along the coats, storm surge can be the most devastating part of the storm.
