Cleaning Crew Shot At While Working

In the video, you see the cleaning crew sweeping the parking lot of a Gentilly shopping center. Moments later, a vehicle stops in the top right corner of the screen, and someone on the passenger side exits the dark sedan. The passenger begins walking toward the cleaning crew with a firearm pointed toward the parking lot they are cleaning.

The suspect rushes the cleaning crew and opens fire 'for several rounds' before sprinting back to the sedan and fleeing the scene, according to Fox 8.

The crew frantically piled into their work truck to take cover from the shots being fired at them.  Once they were sure the gunman had left, they finished their work, grabbed the trash bags, and drove off.

The Community Reacts

Community members told Fox 8 that anything could happen at any given moment: "You could be doing your job, and somebody can just come up with a gun." Ashley Sims tells Fox 8 "You can't do anything around here; you have to always watch your surroundings."

The crime continues to intensify in New Orleans; even innocent people just trying to do their job and mind their business aren't safe.

Luckily, no one was physically harmed this time around, but authorities are still searching for details about the gunman to prevent this from happening again.

This year there has been a total of 127 Non-fatal shooting incidents reported with only 47 cleared by arrest. Criminologist say that in most cases like this there isn't any evidence so they get away with it.

NOPD asks that anyone with information regarding the identity of the shooter or the driver of the dark sedan contact authorities.
