I just figured out this week that I've been pronouncing Kelly Hu's name the wrong way for years.  I've always pronounced Hu as you would the word "hew" instead of the correct way which is as the word "who".  This was pointed out to me after I did a break on the radio promoting Kelly's appearance at Geek'd Con this weekend.

Well, hu woulda thunk it?  Me pronouncing something wrong.  That's never happened before.  (Insert eye roll here.)

So, who is Kelly Hu? First off, she's one of the most beautiful women in the world.  And the world noticed from a very young age.  In 1985 at the age of 16 Kelly was crowned Miss Teen USA in Miami, Florida.

In 1987 Kelly moved to Los Angeles to try to make it in show business.  With her beauty and innate talent it didn't take long.  Her big break came that same year in season 3 of Growing Pains where she was cast as Kirk Cameron's Hawaiian vacation girlfriend for two episodes.

Kelly has had a lifelong interest in martial arts which no doubt prepared her for the many action parts she's played in her career.

Of her many roles, here are my 3 favorites:

Detective Michelle Chang in Seasons 3 and 4 of Nash Bridges.  Kelly and star Don Johnson had a smoldering chemistry, but her character was killed off in Season 4.

The Sorceress in The Scorpion King.  The movie was pretty hokey, but Kelly lit up the screen in scenes like this one.

Assassin Lee Wuan Kai.  Kelly became the first character to cross over between NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS.  This is my personal favorite because, even though she was actually on the screen for only a few short scenes, Kelly's nuanced performance communicated a fully-rounded character.  You actually ended up feeling sorry for a ruthless killer at the end of the story arc.

Oh, and did we mention that Kelly Hu is a poker enthusiast?  She's competed in the World Series of Poker and on the World Poker Tour.  Who knows?  Maybe you'll catch her at the tables on the river this weekend.

Kelly Hu will be appearing both Saturday and Sunday at Geek'd Con at the Shreveport Convention Center.
