Now that 2018 has come to an end, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has opened up its search for the state's Youth Hunters of the Year for 2018.

The contest is open right now, and both girls and boys in Louisiana are encouraged to apply. Hunters must be under the age of 16, and one female and one male hunter will be honored this year as a Louisiana Hunter of the Year for 2018.

If you, or someone you know, are interested in applying, submissions should include a written account of your meaningful hunting experience of 2018, a photo, and the registration form. The Youth Hunter of the Year registration form can be downloaded at the LDWF website.

The LDWF site says "The winners will be recognized at the Governor’s State Conservation Achievement Awards Banquet in April of 2019."

All of the paperwork and pictures must be submitted by March 9th of this year.
