News came out this week that Louisiana tops the nation in the amount of high school students completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA form. This was the second straight year Louisiana led the nation.

High school students in Louisiana also benefit from the TOPS Scholarship program, which Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance Executive Director Dr. Sujuan Boutté say helps contribute to the large numbers for the state.

In addition to the FAFSA news, a new study sheds some light on Louisiana's Student Loan Debt.

A new study from WalletHub says Louisiana ranks 33rd in the country when it comes to Student Loan Debt. The same research says that Louisiana is #5 in the country in "Grant & Student Work Opportunities".

To put the ranks together, WalletHub looked at dozens of metrics, including Average Student Debt, Student Debt as Share of Income, Share of Student-Loan Borrowers Aged 50 Years & Older, Presence of “Student Loan Ombudsmen” Law, and more.
