The overlay of I-20 in West Shreveport has been going on for a couple of months, but there is still plenty of work to be done.

I recently traveled to Texas and shot this video of some big improvements, but as you can see near the end of this video, Louisiana still has a long way to go to match the standards of the Texas portion of I-20.

The work has been going on west of Pines Road, but eventually the 13 mile stretch from Monkhouse Drive to the Texas state line will be overlaid. It's a $17 million dollar project that will include patching and overlaying the highway in both directions.

The highway work is causing for some delays as part of the road is being closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Phase One of the project is just about complete and then Phase Two will start.

If you have to travel the area and the highway is closed, you are advised to use Highway 80 as an alternate route. The complete overlay is expected to wrap up by the spring of next year, but the timetable is dependent on the weather.
