Take the Poll: Who Do You Think Should be LSU’s Next Head Coach?
The headline from a leading college football website says it all: "Who Will Be LSU's Next Head Coach After Ed Orgeron is Fired?" Not "if" Coach O's days in charge are numbered, but WHEN the man who bleeds purple and gold is dismissed.
And it doesn't stop there. One of America's top college football writers, USA Today's Dan Wolken thinks Orgeron is on the way out. From The Advocate:
"'Orgeron is almost certainly going to join former Auburn coach Gene Chizik in getting fired just two years after winning the national title, and the only question is when and how,' Wolken wrote in his column."
Even coaches (seemingly) secure in their jobs see the vultures circling over Tiger Stadium. Florida head man Dan Mullen described the Orgeron situation as kindly as possible. From Saturday Down South:
“'I just think in today’s world, with coaching a lot of times, it’s a week to week, your rating as a coach is week to week,' Mullen said. 'If not play by play on Saturdays, and then after Saturday, it’s week by week. That’s not him, that’s all of us.'"
So, who's next for the Tigers?
So, assuming - as do so many, LSU fans included - that the man who won a National Championship just two seasons ago is on the way out, who is next man up?
Let's take a quick, and admittedly, early poll. And let's, for now, at least, include the two coaches whose names are most often mentioned: The just dismissed Raiders coach (and social media fan fave) John Gruden and current Jacksonville Jaguars boss Urban Meyer, trying to (lap) dance himself out of a messy situation of his own.
And for nostalgia's sake, let's add Coach O. When SEC maven Paul Finebaum says you're on the way out, you're probably on the way out, but maybe we can muster up a little last-minute-love for Louisiana's own Orgeron.
