Metallica took over Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (Dec. 14), getting featured on almost the entire show. The thrash foursome took on a superfan for a round of Metallica trivia, sat down with Kimmel for a chat and performed two songs to close out the night.

In the history of Kimmel’s “Who Knows…” game, no artist has been able to best a superfan. With a four-on-one advantage, Metallica had the upper hand against their opposition — a fanatic named Dave. James Hetfield repeatedly tackled Dave to keep him from ringing his buzzer, but was it enough for Metallica to come out victorious? Check out the video above to find out.

Metallica’s sit-down chat with Jimmy covered a bunch of topics, such as the band’s brand-new album, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct, how the musicians’ kids don’t care about their parents’ band and how Metallica’s iconic logo was created.

Finally, ‘Tallica gave Kimmel’s live audience and the fans at home a double dose of thrash with performances of the new cut “Atlas, Rise!” and the all-time classic “For Whom the Bell Tolls.”
