Turn the clock back to 2015 and 2016 and you'll see that the Louisiana/Texas border lake Toledo Bend Reservoir was named the Best Bass Fishing Lake in America by BassMaster Magazine.

It was the first time in history that a single body of water was named the best in the land, but this 186,000 acre behemoth lake here in Northwest Louisiana/East Texas was producing too many quality largemouth bass for anyone to deny its greatness.

However, it didn't take long for the loss of much of the lake's underwater vegetation (largely due to the Flood of 2016) and the pressure of being the best in the land to take its toll on the Big Bend, and though the lake was still rated highly for the Central Region, it was no longer considered the best of the best.

However, with the recent re-emergence of the highly desirable hydrilla in many areas of the lake, it would appear that the stage might be set for Toledo Bend to regain its position at the head of the table.

Case and point for that was just played out before our very eyes this past Saturday, February 4, during the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League tournament held on Toledo Bend.

Majorleaguefishing.com writes, "Cody Pitt sacked up 39 pounds, 15 ounces to win $8,107. He also had the big bass of the event, a 13-6, which is now the biggest bass ever weighed in BFL competition. His bag is the biggest ever in FLW and MLF competition on Toledo Bend, and the sixth biggest single-day catch of all time."

Consider what they just wrote.  Cody Pitt's 13-6 largemouth is now the largest ever weighed in this style competition and the five fish bag he brought to the scales was not just the biggest ever in FLW and MLF competition on Toledo, but there have only been five bags heavier caught anywhere in America by MLF and FLW anglers.

And Pitt's 13-6 was not the only lunker caught during the competition.

The Toledo Bend Lake Association reports that there were a total of five fish over 10 pounds caught in this one tournament including another massive fish weighing 12-10 caught by Tater Reynolds of Florien, Louisiana.

For those who might have written off Toledo Bend, it would appear that the old girl still has some life in her and she's ready to show off.
