More Louisiana People Get Killed by This Animal Than Any Other

When I first read the article from vox.com, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.  According to their findings from the Centers for Disease Control, the animal most likely to kill people in America is the deer.

Honestly!  Not bears, cougars, wolves, coyotes or even sharks.  It was the dreaded man-eating deer.  Okay, they aren't dreaded or man-eating, but their findings show that due to the sheer volume of car wrecks caused by deer, they are considered the most lethal in the whole country.

In fact, they say that you're more likely to be killed by deer than sharks, bears and alligators combined.

I shudder to think of how much the number of lethal deer encounters would grow if hunters weren't out annually keeping Mother Nature's number in check.

However, when you isolate individual states, the various leading causes of death by animals takes on a new perspective.

In Texas, the biggest killer in the animal kingdom is listed as "Contact with other venomous arthropods."  I had to look up arthropods and this is what I found:

an invertebrate animal of the large phylum Arthropoda, such as an insect, spider, or crustacean.

Essentially the big killer in Texas is scorpions and spiders.

In Mississippi and Arkansas, the most deaths by animal are listed as "Bitten or struck by larger mammals." One would have to assume they're talking about horses or cattle.

However, here in the Bayou State, the most lethal predator of the wild kingdom really isn't even an animal. And before you think you've guessed it, no, it's not alligators or snakes.

They list Louisiana's number one killer as  "Contact with hornets, wasps and bees."

Most all of us know someone who has had an encounter with these heartless little demons that has landed them in the hospital, but very few of us realize just how deadly they can be.

Keep your wasp spray handy and be careful!
