NBC ‘Powerless’ Folds in Batman Connection With Revamped Synopsis
NBC DC comedy Powerless was bound to undergo some creative changes with the departure of showrunner Ben Queen, and now that we’ve locked down a February premiere, those changes are starting to take shape. It looks like Powerless will have a major Batman connection, as revealed in a new synopsis.
Where previously materials had shown the characters of Powerless working at a “Retcon Insurance,” an updated synopsis for the DC comedy reveals that Vanessa Hudgens’ Emily Locke now works at a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises, and seems to have taken on more significant duties than claims adjustment:
In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.
Firefly favorite and Rogue One star Alan Tudyk will play Del, Emily (Vanessa Hudgens)’s superior, as well as the company owner’s son, while Community alum Danny Pudi will play Teddy, Emily’s best work friend, trusted confidante and office prankster. Christina Kirk will play Jackie, superhero fan and assistant to Tudyk’s Del, along with comedian Ron Funches in an new role, and Kate Miccuci and Josh Fadem as Wendy and Marvin Harris.
Early reports on Powerless were a bit mixed, but will an added connection to the Batman universe bolster its chances? Stay tuned for a full trailer.
