New Catholic Bishop Named for Shreveport
The Catholic Diocese of Shreveport has a new bishop on the way.
Pope Francis has named the Msgr. Francis I. Malone of the Diocese of Little Rock as the third bishop of the Diocese of Shreveport.
Bishop-elect Malone, currently pastor of Christ the King Church in Little Rock served as Vicar General, Judicial Vicar, and in many other diocesan positions and on numerous boards and councils, was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Little Rock in May 21, 1977. A Philadelphia native, Bishop-elect Malone family includes an uncle who was a priest of little Rock (deceased at age 93) and a great aunt who made her profession as a Sister of the Sacred Heart in 1919. He graduated high school in McGehee, Arkansas and has numerous siblings.
The 69-year-old Malone attended Holy Trinity Seminary from 1969-1977 and served on faculty from 1986-1987. He has his canon law degree from Catholic University of America.
The Diocese of Shreveport has a total population of 812,200 of which 41,335 are Catholic.
