New Louisiana Law Makes You Share Data To Access Porn Sites
New year, new laws. In Louisiana, this one will catch a lot by surprise. Somehow, a law involving internet pornography didn't get much fanfare as it was passed in the state, and now that its taking effect, many are silently disgruntled.
Louisiana House Bill 142 is the work of Republican representative Laurie Schlegel, and requires legal proof of age to access any website where more than 33% of the content is "pornographic". And this is "legal proof", not just "are you 18 or older" pages. This new law will require you to turn over your personal data to the state of Louisiana (and probably the websites) to access the site.
How you ask? The state will be requiring the state's LA Wallet app to be used to access these sites. That means your driver's license, all the information included on it, and your photo, will have to be turned over to view these sites. Don't have the LA Wallet app? You will be required to enter all of that info by hand.
So what does this mean? Well, the super secure internet (wait, haven't Louisiana government entities been hacked recently?) sites and apps will take all of your personal info, connect it with the site you're visiting, and there's probably no way (there absolutely is a way) they can connect the exact content you're viewing with exactly who you are down to your picture.
Yes, this now means the State of Louisiana is watching you, and specifically who you are, what you look like, and what porn you're accessing. All from elected officials who claim to hate "big government".
