You've heard the phrase "no where to go but up" right?

The new year is here and there is a lot of pressure to do things better or differently. We want to get out there and conquer the world with this new clean slate. But what if the new year isn't off to a great start? What if, instead, you've hit rock bottom in your career?

Don't stress.

This can be the ultimate motivation to get you going onto something good. At least that's what a new study out of the University of Notre Dame says. Hitting rock bottom after losing a job can actually be beneficial. At the root of this is the idea that while you're falling or failing, you've got a lot of pressure on you to fix the problems around you.

Once you're at the bottom though, you're free of these pressures.

From here you can find something that you want to do with your life or a better way to achieve those dreams you have. And since you can't go any further down than the bottom, you can only go up. I think a key thing to take from this is that you have to move after hitting rock bottom. If you choose to remain in this state, you'll be doing yourself a disservice.

Dust yourself off and get going on the next big thing in your life!
