Damn! Nine Inch Nails are embracing the heavy once again! You can hear for yourself in the new track, “Burning Bright (Field on Fire).”

Nine Inch Nails’ most recent album, 2013’s Hesitation Marks, didn’t quite cater to the fans who prefer a more metal-influenced NIN. In Trent Reznor’s surprise announcement last week, he revealed longtime film score partner Atticus Ross was now a member of Nine Inch Nails. Ross’ influence was promised to permeate NIN’s Not the Actual Events EP, but the music within was also said to be “unrecognizable” to what Reznor and Ross had composed together in the past.

“Burning Bright” carries through on Nine Inch Nails’ promise, giving fans a trip into the heaviest reaches of industrial music where bands like Godflesh and Swans reside. The song’s video is simply a never-ending flow of static, which really works with the simple yet chaotic song structure.

“It’s an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make,” Reznor recently said about NIN’s new release. “It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.”

Check out the new Nine Inch Nails track above! Not the Actual Events will be released tomorrow (Dec. 23). To grab a copy, head to the Nine Inch Nails web store.
