Oklahoma Legislator Wants Creation of a Bigfoot Hunting Season

Bet that headline got you didn't it? Holy Cow!  A legislator in Oklahoma is not only inferring that Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti, whatever you might call it, is real, but we need to be allowed to hunt them.

Just Wednesday, Oklahoma Representative Justin Humphrey introduced House Bill 1648, urging the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission (OWCC) to establish a "big foot hunting season".

Fox News is reporting that this isn't a joke. Representative Humphrey has asked the OWCC to "set annual season dates and create any necessary specific hunting licenses and fees."

Okay, I'm a hunter myself, but on this one, I'd have to vote a hard NO. Let me explain. First off, I'm not aware of definitive proof that these things even exist. But, assuming Big Foot is real, why would we want to kill them?  Ethical hunters have a myriad of reasons for taking the life of prey. It might be for food, for fur or because the animal has proven to present a clear and imminent danger to the lives of humans or livestock.

I'm unaware of any proven attacks on humans or livestock, unless you count the television commercials where some idiot is jacking with Sasquatch, so that only leaves them available as food or fur. I'm pretty sure if someone does manage to kill one, they would have absolutely no desire to eat it or skin it so they could wear its fur.

And apparently the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission sees it like I do as their spokesperson was quoted as saying, "Here at the department, we use science to make management decisions, and we do not recognize Bigfoot as a wildlife species."

If the bill passes, it would take effect on November 1st.
