If leaving your furry best friend at home is something holding you back from pursuing a college degree, problem solved!

Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA is opening a pet-friendly residence hall in time for the fall 2022 semester.

As a pet lover, if I was on deciding on where to pursue my college degree and was on the fence between two institutions, this would definitely sway me in Nicholls' direction.

I'd love to go to a school where there were dogs playing frisbee with their owners on the quad. However, if we're being honest, I'm not sure it would have been a good idea for me to have a pet on campus during my undergraduate years. Sure, pets are a major stress reliever, but I couldn't always be counted on arriving back at my dorm at an early enough hour to take care of said pet. At the time, I was too immature to be responsible for another living being.

At this time, pets allowed will be limited to cats and dogs, but Nicholls has made no restrictions with regard to breed or size. The animal must be up to date on all of its vaccinations.

I'm assuming that making sure the dog is spayed or neutered is probably a good idea as well. Can you imagine how loud that residence hall will be with all the barking? My dogs lose their mind if they think they hear a car door, imagine what it would be like with dogs being exposed to dorm life?!?!?

Another requirement to consider is that the program is limited to returning students taking at least 24 credit hours at this time. However, the school hopes to use the program to entice new students in the future and it's a part of their effort to grow on-campus residential communities with shared interests according to Louisiana Radio Network. In fact, they report that campus officials are even planning to construct a dog park close to the Pet-Friendly Living Community to give them a place to exercise and socialize.

So what do you think? Is this something that would interest you or someone you know? Is it a good idea? Inquiring minds want to know!
