The NFL Draft is upon us once again. It's pretty amazing that the entry draft, where college prospects get selected by NFL franchises, has become a bigger sporting event than the NBA Finals. It's bigger than the World Series too...evidence is here.

Over 12 million people watched the 2021 NFL Draft, and there were more who watched the 2020 Draft. The NFL has become so big that it's Draft is now one of the most watched sporting events every calendar year.

For folks in the Shreveport area, the NFL Draft has become a tradition recently. Not because local favorites like the New Orleans Saints or Dallas Cowboys have regularly been picking at the top of the Draft. But because there have been plenty of local players who have been making their way into the first round of the NFL Draft.

Examples include Devin White, who was the 5th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Tre'Davious White who was the 27th pick of the First Round in 2017, or Jerry Tillery who was the 28th selection in the First Round in 2019. There have been other prospects from our area locally that had "first round grades" who happened to slip into the Second Round. Those would include Greedy Williams and Terrace Marshall Jr.

Now its great to have all of these local players getting taken high in the Draft, but it's not the first time Shreveport has made a splash at the top of the First Round.

Back in 1970, Shreveport's Terry Bradshaw was the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft out of Louisiana Tech. He was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the rest is a Hall of Fame career, and history.

Throughout history there have been a lot of Shreveport area players selected in the NFL Draft. That doesn't mean all of them were guaranteed Hall of Fame careers or Super Bowl rings, even though many have them. Getting drafted doesn't even guarantee you a long career in the NFL.

Players Born In The Shreveport Area Picked In The NFL Draft

These players were born in the Shreveport area, but did not necessarily play high school or college football in the area. This also doesn't include players born in another area, who moved to Shreveport later in life (Dak Prescott, Trent Taylor)
