I really wish the new posters for Lionsgate’s Power Rangers came with a behind the scenes video from the photoshoot. What, exactly, did the photographer tell the cast of young actors as they laid across green screens showing off their Ranger costumes atop their Zords like robotic models brooding in a dystopian fall fashion editorial? There were probably lots of adjectives thrown around like, “moody,” “wistful,” “sexy,” “stern,” or to the women: “stick your chests out more because those costumes definitely don’t emphasize female body parts enough.”

The conversation for the Blue Ranger’s poster definitely went something like: “Lean back, keep going. Further, until you’ve reach the most uncomfortable position possible. Now spread your legs. Wider. RJ, SPREAD ‘EM LIKE YOU’RE ON THE UPTOWN 6 TRAIN AT RUSHOUR! Good. Now, look super stoned.”

The photos Lionsgate has already released from Saban’s Power Rangers are also, well, a little hard to describe. First it was those costumes, which are certainly wacky. There there was the still of Elizabeth BanksRita Repulsa trapped in a glass cocoon with no context. Now we just need to find out what Bryan Cranston’s big-headed Zordon will look like (I am legitimately excited for this). The movie, directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) follows five teenagers who must save the planet and a lot of the stuff you watched them do in the ‘90s TV show. Here’s the full synopsis:

Saban’s “Power Rangers” follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The film stars Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, and Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger. Footage from the new movie will screen at Lionsgate’s New York Comic Con panel next month, followed by a Q&A with the cast, so be prepared to hear more details about the mighty morphin’ and awkward poses to come. Power Rangers opens March 24, 2017.
