Shreveport’s Pride – Primus Returns with Local Star on Drums
Shreveport has always had a rich and lively musical history. You can start with Lead Belly, jump to James Burton and several other local connections to Elvis' band or jump all the way up to more modern times and talk about iwrestledabearonce. From classical music to metal, pretty much all eras and genres have been covered at some point.
Well, today, we can add another chapter to Shreveport's musical legacy. Because, Shreveport's own John Hoffman will be coming back home. This time, to play with legendary rock band Primus - who added him as their official drummer in February.
John Hoffman to Play Shreveport With Primus for the First Time
John Hoffman has probably played darn near every musical venue in Shreveport at one time or another - from Tiki Bar to Festival Plaza. But, I would imagine, no show is going to be cooler or more impactful than the one he'll play on July 29th, 2025.
Not only will he be taking the stage at the historic Municipal Auditorium - the same place that hosted Elvis, Jimi Hendrix and countless other legends. But, for the first time at home, he'll be taking the stage in Shreveport as a member of legendary rock band Primus on their "Onward & Upward Summer Tour".
How Did a Shreveporter End Up Being the Drummer For Primus?
Primus, arguably, is one of the most unique and influential experimental rock bands of all time. So, how did a drummer from Shreveport end up being the full time drummer for Primus?
Well...he applied and worked his tail off. Back in November, Primus' long-time drummer Tim 'Herb' Alexander left the band. To find his replacement, Primus hosted open tryouts online. More than 5,000 people were vying for the spot.
