Controversy swirled over the weekend when the Dallas Observer reported that Ride for Dime president Rob Eichelberger had allegedly used funds and donated memorabilia from the non-profit organization to purchase illicit drugs. He has now announced his resignation, while someone else who is closely tied to Dimebag Darrell's legacy has joined as the organization's Chairman of the Board.

Eichelberger released an official statement through the Ride for Dime Facebook page, welcoming Dimebag's former girlfriend Rita Haney as the newest Chairman of the Board. With more information concerning future events expected, he also announced he will no longer serve as president of the organization, thanking everyone for his support. The full statements reads,

I would like to be the first to welcome the new Chairman of the Board for Ride for Dime, Rita Haney. Many of you may know her as DimebagzHag (his girlfriend). Here at RFD we are very excited for all the up coming changes for this year’s event. More announcements and information to follow. I, Rob Eichelberger, will be stepping down as President to make way for all the great things to come and to better support the memory of Dimebag Darrell Abbott.. I have enjoyed being a part of such a great man’s organization, and will continue to support in any way that I can. Thanks you so much for all of your support!

“When it comes to [Dimebag] Darrell, I can’t help but be a mamma bear,” Haney told the Dallas Observer. “One person doesn’t need control, and it takes several people to do it right.”

A Ride for Dime event was held in January earlier this year where metal legends swarmed Hollywood to pay tribute to the legendary axeman at Dimebash 2016. At the show's conclusion, singer Philip Anselmo infamously bellowed "White power!" and gave a Nazi salute before walking offstage. The actions were met with harsh criticism from fans and musicians, leading to complications and show cancellations for Anselmo's sludge outfit Down.
