Road Construction in Bossier City to Cause Traffic Delays

Get ready Bossier City, it's orange barrel season and we're going to see more traffic tie ups around I-220.

It's not like we're not already dodging barrels and concrete barricades at I-220 at I-20 near Harrah's Louisiana Downs or anything. *shrug* The truth is, a lot of this work is long overdue. Bossier Parish continues to grow and our infrastructure needs to keep pace with traffic demands.

So where's the new traffic hot spot? Work will start in about two weeks and consist of several phases in the I-220-Swan Lake Road area. The work is slated to take around 100 days, weather permitting. What's going on? Officials say the purpose of the work is to widen Swan Lake Road underneath the I-220 overpass. Here's what the phases will look like.

Phase One
Phase one of the project calls for the closure of the westbound entrance ramp from Swan Lake onto I-220 and the eastbound exit ramp off I-220 at Swan Lake. The work will take approximately 30 days to complete.

Phase Two
Phase two will close the Swan Lake Rd. eastbound entrance ramp onto I-220 and the westbound exit ramp off I-220 onto Swan Lake. The work will take approximately 30 days to complete.

As you can tell, there will be ramp/lane closures. Officials say there will be signage to direct traffic regarding alternate routes to access Swan Lake Road and the interstate.

Phase Three
Another 30-day project involves widening Swan Lake Road along its route beneath the I-220 overpass. Intermittent lane closures, both north and southbound, will be necessary during 12-hour periods while the project contractor lays new lanes and surface.
