Sam Cooke’s Story Featured on Comedy Central’s “Drunk History”
Last weekend, Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins issued an official apology to Sam Cooke and his family for his treatment in Shreveport back in 1963. He also gave the Cooke family a key to the city. Well, that act, has gotten a lot of national attention.
Perkins' apology has been covered by the New York Daily News, CNN, Fox News and several other major outlets. In fact, the story of the Mayor's apology and the way Sam was treated has gone so viral, that Comedy Central covered Cooke and the Shreveport Incident on the latest episode of "Drunk History".
According to the Comedy Central preview of the segment:
Sam Cooke wrote his legendary song “A Change Is Gonna Come” at the height of the civil rights movement in response to the racial injustices he experienced in his own life.
The comedy show covered Cooke's rise to fame, how Shreveport helped inspired "A Change Gonna Come" and his death. Obviously, not every detail is factually accurate...but it still is highly entertaining and informative.
